RA response

The book “Persepolis” was written by Marjane Satrapi. Marjane is also known for writing Persepolis 2.  I chose to analyze page 63 of this book because I see to understand how Marji felt after knowing the guy she was beginning to like very much was soon leaving her for good.
This text is intended for the readers to get visual in their minds to understanding how different the lifestyles and cultures varies in different country and that the simplest things that could be fix in today’s country can cause someone from another country like Iran to have to leave to better themselves.
This text says that Marji boy crush is moving to the United States because his parents says “Its impossible to live under the Islamic Regime.” It shows that the boy is very sad having to leave his friends behind as he move to the United States. The author supports this text by showing that the boy feels down talking to his friend and Marji. He doesn’t smile in the illustrations or show any signs that he is happy about the move to United States. So he has a month left in Iran until he leaves. The boy friend tries cheering him up by saying “ now you get to meet Bruce Lee.” Marji walks off saying “Bruce Lee is dead.” She extremely upset that the boy she liked is moving.
The purpose of this text is to acknowledge that marji had some kind of love life but was ended due to the boy having to leave to another country. Earlier in the book it showed that Marji helped the family house keeper write notes to a boy of a higher class than her because she understood the feelings the two had for each other but was ended due to her father having to tell the boy that she isn’t his daughter and her social class is lower than yours for anything to ever work. The author hope to accomplish showing the audience that Marji also had feelings for someone of her own.  The author moves her signals by incorporating the words that’s being used into pictures to show emotion of the characters.
The author adopt the point of view of trying to show positive side of the boy moving by mentioning that it would be a better opportunity for them as a family and that the little boy get a chance to meet Bruce Lee. I recognize a social influence of the little boy friend because by the illustrations of the little boy friend trying to say positive things that he thinks will cheer him up.
This text show some interesting features for example, it shows the ups and downs of having to move and how it can effect the people around you just as much how it can change your life as the person having to move. This text shows the features of young relationship between Marji and the boy that’s moving. The two really liked each other and it hurt Marji once he told her.
The style of this text is sad and depressing. Knowing that a person you like so much is leaving to a different country and you will never get to see him/her again can really make someone feel unwanted or miserable for extended period of time.
The tone of this text is serious mostly throughout the text with having to break the bad news to Marji and his guy friend, then shows a little humor with the boy friend tries to make the situation better with saying he can meet Bruce Lee.

  1. Nice RA! I like how you examine the images and provide specific details to back up your claims. It is interesting how love is a central theme in this book despite all of the external conflict. Marji loves so many people (Mehri, Grandma, Mom, Uncle, boyfriend) and that expression runs throughout the book. The author's purpose seems to include the strength of the human spirit to endure and love even given the most difficult circumstances. Thanks for a thought-provoking post. Please use MLA in-text citations and signal phrases before the second quarter for full credit. Also, watch your TEA organization: one topic per paragraph, specific evidence and analysis will really improve the clarity of your writing.
