RR killer culture

The article "Killer Culture" by David Kupelian is about a father who believes that modern society and the way it influence kids is killing our culture. He thinks the way MTV, commercial advertisements, and sexual advertisements is corrupting the children in today's generation. Kupelian thinks the best way to keep children safe is to home school them until the parents feel that they're ready to go out in the world.

I personally believe that if every parents were to home school their children for majority of their life that the kids wouldn't have the experience of seeing how the real world actually is. For example children that's goes through home schooling at the high school stage wouldn't see the bad of what drugs can do to someone. Therefore once when they are out In the real world and get their first view or insight on it they won't have any answers for as far as what to do or how to stay away from it. Most importantly they wouldn't know what drugs to do or not do and the side effects of each one. Home school is a good idea to a certain extent but for it to be suggested as to home school until the children is of age eighteen is a little bit over the top. Also every parents aren't  authorized to home school or can afford it for multiple children in their household.

An possible solution to try to keep today's culture from killing the society and youth other than home schooling is to focus more on the way parents raise their kids. Instead of locking them up and being over protective about the things they watch, music the listen too, and amount of explicit video/advertisements they see, be more willing to teach and let them understand the rights and wrong of each popular society interest. Theirs good and bad in the world no matter where too see it or hear it. It's always gonna be their and as parents they just have to be good teachers to their children so they know when to turn away form the bad.

This article “Killer Culture” was written by David Kupelian. Who also wrote “How Evil works” and “The Marketing of Evil.” In his articles he intend to persuade the audience to believe that the modern culture is being ruined by MTV, drugs, sex and music. He also trying to get parents to home schools their children to save the culture and protect the children of this generation.
In this article Kupelian states that “hip-hop has an in your face attitude looks strong and free to kids who feel constrained by expectations of the mundane middle-class world they have grown up in.” (Pg. 649) This statement is supported with a quote from rapper Ice-T album “Home Invasion”. That refers to “cultural invasion.” This occurs when adults sit around with their racist attitude and their kids sits down listening to Ice-T music through their earphones. The author is trying to get parents to be more observant of their children and the music they listen too. Kupelian hope that he accomplished getting his word out to other parents about being more protective and observant of what their kid is doing.
Kupelian point of view is supported with the negative lyrics the rapper Ice-T says in his song. For example Ice-T says, “Once I get ‘em under my f---kin spell/ they may start giving you f---kin hell.” (Pg 649) He blamed the rap world for the diversion the ordinary world of college boards and dating. I recognize that Kupelian culture is different than today modern when it comes to parents. He’s really strict on how kids should be raise rather than other parents who don’t really control or say much to what music their children listen too.
In this article there were a few remarkable features for example the connection to his religion. He connects his Christian beliefs to support his reasoning of trying to save kids from this “Killer Culture”. He put this information towards the middle/end after he put his views on music, commercials, and MTV.  He emphasizes on the behavior would change if the kids continue to be influenced by this.
I would characterize this article as informal. Its informal because it gives a parent point of view like Kupelian to inform other parents about the negativity that music, drugs, some advertisements and MTV has on the modern culture. His message he sends out other parents and readers are very informational but his suggestions to help fix is the culture is unrealistic.
Kupelian tone in this text is serious. He is trying to get his point across as much as he can so that others will agree and go with the idea of home schooling. He references a lot of sources of negativity for example MTV videos, Commercial, and rappers.

todd gitlin question #2

American global media has been infiltrating nations and homogenizing local cultures and countries identities. Television, movies. Computer software and music began to change the images of what things perceived to be and what others advertised. I estimated that knowledge and the broad of American’s mind were expanded through this transition in a good positive way. People began to see things in different views and also made people of America be more aware of the American culture change.

if i could change one thing in the society/community...

If I could change one thing in society/community I would change the way people judge others based off their appearance. People can look a certain way that others would be quick to judge or question what kind of person they come off to be. I feel like it’s not fair to judge someone because they don’t look the part of someone else another person might be used too.
Being around judgmental people can lower your self-esteem and how you see yourself in the community. Judgmental people can make you feel so low for no reason. Just because you dress with your hat to the side, baggy pants, and oversized shirts doesn’t make them a bad person. Some people might dress that way because they cannot afford clothes to fit them perfectly so they have to settle for hand me downs and hand me ups. Before people get to judge others they should get to know them before categorizing them as a bad person. Judging someone can also make him or her act out of characters in a way they might feel disrespected or hurt by the people to judge them. This can cause the person to give those who judge a reason to think that they’re the type of person that they might assume them to be.
Changing the judgment by people in the community/society would make things better in my eyes because it would give other people in the society more confidence about themselves when they go out in public to be apart of the community and not feel like they’re getting judge by others. If people were to not judge others wouldn’t get the feel that they are not welcome in some places in the community.  When people gang more confidence in them it helps them in a lot of other different areas in their life. For example people who has more confidence in themselves and not worry about being judge by society usually are more open minded and outgoing to meet new people and become successful with their jobs.
I feel judging is wrong for our society because people come from different backgrounds and different lifestyle an people shouldn’t have the right to down talk to or think of them differently because of it. For example some people might come from what others says is the “ghetto” doesn’t mean that they have to be ghetto. They can live in that area and be well educated but by judging a person wouldn’t know that.
Judging others would be the first thing ill try to change in the community/society because I know how it can influence others negatively in society and impact others behaviors in a way they wouldn’t normal act. Don’t judge based off someone appearance get to know them it would make the community a much better place.

The book “Persepolis” was written by Marjane Satrapi. Marjane is also known for writing Persepolis 2.  I chose to analyze page 63 of this book because I see to understand how Marji felt after knowing the guy she was beginning to like very much was soon leaving her for good.
This text is intended for the readers to get visual in their minds to understanding how different the lifestyles and cultures varies in different country and that the simplest things that could be fix in today’s country can cause someone from another country like Iran to have to leave to better themselves.
This text says that Marji boy crush is moving to the United States because his parents says “Its impossible to live under the Islamic Regime.” It shows that the boy is very sad having to leave his friends behind as he move to the United States. The author supports this text by showing that the boy feels down talking to his friend and Marji. He doesn’t smile in the illustrations or show any signs that he is happy about the move to United States. So he has a month left in Iran until he leaves. The boy friend tries cheering him up by saying “ now you get to meet Bruce Lee.” Marji walks off saying “Bruce Lee is dead.” She extremely upset that the boy she liked is moving.
The purpose of this text is to acknowledge that marji had some kind of love life but was ended due to the boy having to leave to another country. Earlier in the book it showed that Marji helped the family house keeper write notes to a boy of a higher class than her because she understood the feelings the two had for each other but was ended due to her father having to tell the boy that she isn’t his daughter and her social class is lower than yours for anything to ever work. The author hope to accomplish showing the audience that Marji also had feelings for someone of her own.  The author moves her signals by incorporating the words that’s being used into pictures to show emotion of the characters.
The author adopt the point of view of trying to show positive side of the boy moving by mentioning that it would be a better opportunity for them as a family and that the little boy get a chance to meet Bruce Lee. I recognize a social influence of the little boy friend because by the illustrations of the little boy friend trying to say positive things that he thinks will cheer him up.
This text show some interesting features for example, it shows the ups and downs of having to move and how it can effect the people around you just as much how it can change your life as the person having to move. This text shows the features of young relationship between Marji and the boy that’s moving. The two really liked each other and it hurt Marji once he told her.
The style of this text is sad and depressing. Knowing that a person you like so much is leaving to a different country and you will never get to see him/her again can really make someone feel unwanted or miserable for extended period of time.
The tone of this text is serious mostly throughout the text with having to break the bad news to Marji and his guy friend, then shows a little humor with the boy friend tries to make the situation better with saying he can meet Bruce Lee.

Persepolis post #2

The ending of story “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi was very sad. Marjane gotten kicked out

of her school, forcing her aunt to somehow maneuver her through the system to get put into another

school. Its gets worst from there as she goes to the new school and her and the teacher as she told her

off about how the Islamic regime ordered her uncle to be killed. Marjane father found out from the

principle and smiled as he says she gets it from her uncle. Very soon Marjane parents would have to

make a big decision that will Affect Marjane life drastically. They decided to send her to Austria

where she can be happy but yet be far away than close and be miserable.
Marjane leaving would hurt everyone around her deeply. Her parents sending her off knowing that they would never be able to stay together again but then again would come visit her. Marjane grandmother would come by the day before she was leaving to give her advice on how to take care of herself. Her grandmother told her “if a jerk hurts you tell yourself that there are stupid because it will help her not to react in a cruel way. Nothing is worse than bitterness and vengeance. Always keep your head up and true to yourself.” These words from her grandma would stay with her forever. When she says her final goodbyes to her parents and she walks through checking she looks back at them one more time and her mom faints into her father hands. She knows leaving would be the best thing for her to better her life.

In my opinion this was a great book ended so sad. In my life experience the only thing that could

compare to this type of hurt would have to be when I first left for school. I left knowing I wouldn’t be

able to see my parents, grandparents, and my siblings for a very long time. Once I said my goodbyes

to my family and I began to walk through the airport I broke down. I cried all the way to the gate

because not knowing when the exact time and date that I’ll ever see them again was painful on the

inside. For the whole first 2 weeks I called my family everyday telling them how much I miss them

and I was ready to come home. Being homesick really sucked more and more each day until one day

I just got over it and focused on school knowing they would be ok. I can only imagine how hurt.

Marjane felt about leaving and nor being able to go back to them anytime soon. This book opened

my eyes a bit on other cultures and taught me I shouldn’t take my family for granted because its

other people that can’t see or speak to them anymore base of their lifestyle or family structure.

narrative respone #2

In The Article “The Great Escape” by Joshua Bearman Tony Mendez was head of Disguise and Authentication chief for his division for the CIA. Over time Mendez would to try to rescue the hostages from the Canadian Ambassador house. Soon after he came up with an idea that he felt best suited his skills as part of the CIA. His plan was to give the Americans who were held hostage at the Canadian Ambassador a false identity to walk out of the Mehrabad Airport. For his plan to work he would have to sneak in himself to organize and lead the escapes for his plan to be successful.
According to Joshuah Bearman “Mendez knew that rescuing the hostages alone couldn’t be done by using his real name, so he decided to give himself a false identity as “Kevin Costa Harkin,” an Irish film producer.” He would call his Hollywood friend by the name of John Chambers, a veteran make up artist who won an academy award for Planet Of the Apes in 1969. They would come up with a production company by the name of “Studio Six Productions.” The name comes from the six hostages they plan to rescue from the Canadian Ambassador.
According to Bearman “Their plan was to pretend that they were going into Iran to film a movie based off a previous script writing by Chambers long ago that evaporated due to funds.” The name of the script was “Tale of Hindu-inspired a mystical science fiction.” Mendez agreed and quickly changed the name of the script to “Argo.” Meaning a vessel used by Jason on his daring adventure across the world to retrieve the Golden Fleece. He was sent into Iran after getting a cable approval from president Carter to produce his film.
Mendez would fly into Europe where he obtained visa’s from the Iranian consultant and six passports that the Canadian government issued to him. He turned the six passports into “real fakes” which were genuine documents that were prepared by the Canadian government for the Hollywood aliases devised by the CIA. Canadians law prohibits any counter fit for these documents but country parliament held an emergency secret session to make an exception. This was the first since World War II. Mendez met up with the six hostages the day before at the ambassador’s place for dinner, where he explained to them that he had prepared to rescue them from Tehran. Soon after Mendez gave them the details about the escape plan and it took them four days to get ready for their escape.
While back at home at Studio Six Production studios they were getting busier by the day as the news for the movie film continue to get out. They had three lines two for business calls and one line was for if the plan was to fail or if the plan was a success. The hostages haven’t been in public for almost 80 days before they entered the airport. As they proceed through the airport some of the hostages began to get a bit worried as if the plan wasn’t going to work. Once the Iranian officer disappeared with the rest of the passports everyone kept their heads down as the airport began to fill up with people. Once they announced that their plane was ready for departure one of the hostages realized that the name of the plane was similar to the name of the plane in the cover story, as he sat down on the plane and asked Mendez “you guys planned everything didn’t you?” Mendez smiled as everyone order themselves a drink and he turned and looked back at the group and said “We’re home free.” a few hours later the production company third line rings and they get the good news that they made it out.
